California Proposition 65 Warning

Prop 65, the “Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act 1986”, is a law that was established solely within the state of California. It is an initiative to protect groundwater from pollution. Prop 65 requires California to keep an updated list of both natural and synthetic chemicals that may cause cancer or reproductive harm. Prop 65 affects all consumer products sold or distributed in California, including textiles, footwear, hard goods, DIY products, toys, juvenile products, stationery, electrical/electronic items, food and much more.

This warning is not for chemicals that are added to products but that are naturally occurring in many of the products’ raw ingredients and/or results from the processing (cooking) of these products.

While the sale of these chemicals is not prohibited, California businesses (grocery stores, restaurants, hospitals, etc.) are legally obligated to include the appropriate warnings on their labels.
